Sperm Freezing
[Sperm freezing or] "Sperm cryopreservation has an
important role in an IVF program, not only where the donor
sperm is concerned, but also in cases where the male partner
has difficulty producing specimens at the appropriate time.
In these cases samples may be frozen whenever they become
available to ensure that a sample will be available on the
day of oocyte retrieval. It may also be of some psychological
advantage to patients to have a frozen sample in reserve,
thus ensuring that there is less pressure for them to provide
a sample on the day of oocyte retrieval."
