Ovarian Cysts
Polycystic Ovarian Disease (PCOD) is a condition where
the ovaries exhibit many small cysts. PCOD, among other
things, may prevent a woman from becoming pregnant. Symptoms
may include irregular menstrual cycles, failure to ovulate,
high levels of testosterone, masculinization of facial and
pubic hair, many small follicles in ultrasound or ovarian
biopsy. Some patients may be obese.
Ovulation may be induced by the agent clomiphene citrate;
however, PCOD while being a common cause of menstrual irregularity,
may have other associated health risks that need to be taken
into account.
